...in what should be considered another golden generation for Madrid
REAL MADRID are on the cusp of history after their 2-0 win in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup over Barcelona.
The La Liga champions have now scored in 68 consecutive games and, according to Marca, are just shy of the record set by Santos.
The Brazilian side managed to score in 74 straight games in a time which football legend Pele was gracing the turf at Santos.
During that period, Santos notched 51 wins, 14 draws and only lost on nine occasions.
Real have already won as many games as Santos in six fewer matches, drawing 12 and losing five.
But while Real could break the goalscoring record, they haven't come close to Santos' phenomenal goal tally during that time.
In just 74 games, they scored an astonishing 245 goals - averaging over three goals a game.
Madrid meanwhile have scored 186 goals.
The reigning Champions League winners broke the European record, set by Bayern Munich between the 2012/13 and 2013/14 campaign, last season when they scored in their 62nd straight game.
Real's next seven competitive games sees them take on Deportivo, Valencia, Levante, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Alaves and Espanyol but the Champions League group stage draw is yet to be conducted.
